Our Story

Welcome to Balm Dot Calm

Handcrafted Herbal Skincare • Honest, Pure, Purposeful.

Balm Dot Calm started with a simple idea: skincare should fit easily into real life, not add to it. Each small‑batch salve and balm is crafted with clean, nourishing ingredients designed to protect, soothe, and restore.

Where the Craft Began...

From a Maine kitchen to your skin ~ one small batch at a time.

For over a decade, this formula lived quietly in my kitchen, made with love for friends and family and refined through years of real-life use. What began as a simple, handcrafted creation has grown into a small women-owned apothecary rooted in the slow, natural rhythms of Maine.

I've always been drawn to simple, purposeful skincare ~ the kind you can trust without reading a label twice. Blending butters, waxes, and plant oils by hand became a ritual for me long before it became a business. There's something grounding about the process: the warm beeswax, the scent of herbs, the way a batch comes together slowly and with honest craft.

As a working mom of two, I wanted products that were safe, clean, and uncomplicated ~ something I could feel good about using on myself and my family. Commercial skincare never gave me that confidence. The long ingredient lists, the synthetics, the preservatives… none of it felt aligned with the way I wanted to care for my skin or theirs. So I started making my own, relying on natural ingredients I could pronounce and trust.

Today, I still stir and pour each jar by hand, choosing oils and botanicals for their purity and the way they support the skin's natural moisture barrier. Balm Dot Calm's formula reflects how I approach both craft and life — simple, intentional, and rooted in care. It's a reflection of how I approach both craft and life. Beeswax and shea butter create a breathable barrier, plant oils replenish and soften, and herbs like arnica and calendula offer gentle comfort. A light, earthy blend of essential oils adds a calming aroma that just feels like home.

Supporting local businesses has always mattered to me, and wherever possible, I source ingredients and materials from Maine makers and small suppliers. Building this mother‑daughter apothecary has become one of the most meaningful parts of my life. My daughter brings her creativity and voice to our socials and to everything we share with the world, and together we're so happy you found your way into this little Maine apothecary.

The Formula

Balm Dot Calm's formula is honest, pure, and purposeful. Beeswax and shea butter create a breathable barrier that slows moisture loss, while a blend of plant oils delivers essential fatty acids that nourish and replenish the skin. Arnica and calendula offer gentle botanical comfort. Castor oil provides natural structure, and grapeseed and sweet almond keep the texture light and fast‑absorbing. Jojoba mirrors the skin's own sebum, making the salves universally compatible and deeply softening. A subtle botanical aroma comes from the natural ingredients themselves, as well as a few essential oils, offering a quiet, earthy scent that feels grounding and clean.

Made with Care

Every batch is crafted without harsh chemicals ~ just clean, nourishing ingredients you can feel good about. All plant oils are naturally free of gluten and grains, and the formula never includes parabens, phthalates, sulfates, preservatives, lanolin, synthetics, or synthetic fragrances.

Naturally stable oils like coconut, olive, and castor support the balm's longevity, while T‑50 tocopherols help protect more delicate plant oils. Jojoba and rosehip add extra stability and keep the formula fresh without preservatives, relying solely on the integrity of a purely oil‑based blend.
